Job o’ the Day: Paid Summer Legal Interns with the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C.

The American Red Cross International Services Department responds to disasters and builds safer, more resilient communities, all while educating future humanitarians. The American Red Cross is now expanding its global programming and strengthening the global Red Cross Red Crescent network in order to provide vital assistance to some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.

We are looking for an intern (paid) to work with the international humanitarian law (IHL) team to support our education programs, including our current work in schools and colleges. The intern will work as part of a small team where he/she will gain hands on experience working with public education programs for educators, youth audiences and with our activities in International Humanitarian Law dissemination.

An interest in marketing and promotion, social media, communications and development is essential. Our interns work as integral members of our team and carry out professional level work in a supervised atmosphere.

Responsibilities include supporting the team’s outreach and promotion activities, including preparing talking points to support chapters’ efforts to disseminate IHL and their contacts with educators and schools, drafting articles and short updates for our newsletter and/or educational publications, supporting the team’s participation at local conferences and the organization of trainings at NHQ,  assisting with the collection of best practices and performing follow-up activities to strengthen our networks and gather information for monitoring and reporting purposes.
