New Student Pro Bono Resources Added to PSJD.org!
by Ashley Matthews, PSJD Fellow
New York recently became the first state to mandate pro bono hours for all new lawyers applying for admission to the state bar. The requirement, announced by New York Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman, is a part of an initiative to help close the justice gap for the growing number of low-income people who are unable to afford legal services.
This new mandate may leave many new recent law graduates and attorneys with a lot of questions, but there’s no need to worry. PSJD and the public interest law community is here to help! We’ve added a new Pro Bono section to the Resource Center on PSJD.org that will point you in the right direction to learn more about the requirements and how to fulfill them. We also spotlight organizations that can help you get started with pro bono work.
We’ll be updating the Pro Bono Resources section on a rolling basis, so make sure to visit PSJD.org often to stay up to date!
